ISO, or the International Organization for Standardization, is a non-governmental body consisting of over 160 countries. ISO is responsible for developing standards for various industries which promote quality, safety, and efficiency. The completion of the certification emphasizes Coastal Container’s continued drive to use best practices across the company.
Coastal Container earns Sustainable Forestry Initiative certifications
Coastal Container, leader in corrugated packing products and services, earned the Chain of Custody Standard and the Fiber Sourcing Standard certifications from the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).
The completion of the certifications emphasizes the company’s drive to use sustainable practices across the company, something the company has focused on through the years. To complete the certification, all of the company’s wood-based raw materials must come from legal and responsible sources.

This certification endorses our internal standard and is a way for us to display that commitment to all our stakeholders,” said Paul Doyle, CEO of Coastal Container. “Making sustainable decisions is the right thing to do and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative certifications demonstrate our continued support of conservation.”

Coastal Container is also pursuing ISO-9001 and NSF food safety certifications, and earned the ISTA Laboratory Certification to conduct ISTA package performance testing.
SFI 215-2019 Fiber Sourcing Standard- The Fiber Sourcing Standard sets mandatory practice requirements for the acquisition of all fiber sourced from the forest, whether the forest is certified or not. These requirements include measures to broaden the practice of biodiversity, use best management practices to protect water quality, and use the services of forest management and harvesting professionals.
SFI 2015-2019 Chain of Custody Standard- This standard is an accounting system tracking forest fiber content through production and manufacturing to the end product. Coastal Container can label its product with the SFI Certified Chain-of-Custody label, giving customers the reassurance they are making a sound environmental choice.
