Purpose of the Job

This position is responsible for contributing the day-to-day functions. The floater assistant – Corrugator is responsible for working within a team to operate the machine in a safe, efficient and reliable manner.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Set-up the machine according to machine specific procedures.
  • Make necessary adjustments during set up and run to ensure quality work.
  • Successful candidates will be required to learn the duties of assistant and/or machine operator and be promoted to the next position level when a vacancy becomes available.
  • Monitor quality throughout the production run.
  • Complete the box Quality check required on each order.
  • Follow all Lock out procedures.
  • Enter production data into computer.
  • Keep machines from jam ups.
  • Counting and stacking finished product.
  • Report significant and major mechanical failure to department supervisor immediately.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment. Machinery can run up to speeds of 360 pieces per minute.
  • Ensure correct unit configuration per customer requirements.
  • Clean up housekeeping procedures such as blowing down the machine, wiping off shafts, cleaning ink systems, vacuuming and sweeping the machine area, and picking up and shredding miscellaneous scrap.
  • Work overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and procedure manual.
  • Performs Lock out Tag out when there are safety concerns.
  • Follow Lockout procedures as specified in the Safety Manual and operators must sign off on all Policies and Lockout Procedures at a minimum of every six months.
  • Perform well with limited direct supervision.
  • Exercises proper handling to ensure good quality of work.
  • Maintains a strong work ethic, uses good judgement and decision-making skills while maintaining that safety always comes first.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • 2+ years experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 2+ years experience in the corrugated industry
  • 2 +years experience as a machine operator
  • Be able to read tape measure, calculate figures and amounts such as percentage, volume and rate.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Good conflict resolution skills.
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Basic computer skills such as Microsoft Outlook and Office.

  • Stand, walk, and talk or hear
  • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
