Maintenance Tech

Purpose of the Job

Provide maintenance support to the manufacturing facility and personnel to ensure that building, grounds, and machinery are maintained and in proper working condition so that every operator and every visitor can experience the company purpose.  All maintenance team members actively participate in and support, problem solving and continuous improvement efforts in process and production.  Finished products should serve the company purpose to “Ensure the integrity of our customer’s reputation and products from dock to destination.”

Essential Job Responsibilities

Provides manufacturing and facility maintenance support:

  • Assists to ensure that production, non-production, and production support equipment is properly designed and repaired within the required timeline. Must have abilities in fabrication skills, light carpentry skills, and basic electrical skills to maintain buildings and support manufacturing.
  • 5S: Works to ensure work area is maintained in a clean, orderly, and safe condition at all times. Completes all regularly scheduled 5S checks. Assists in any 5S activity scheduled for assigned work cells. Immediately alerts team member and team coordinators of all unsafe work conditions.
  • Conducts safety audits; and maintains a safe work environment
  • Assists production in training in preventative maintenance and standard operation of equipment

Ensures safety, security, and viability of building and grounds:

  • Responsible to assist in evaluating building security measures and structural integrity of the facility. Responsible for the appearance and upkeep of all property, facility and grounds. Keeps facility “customer ready” at

Planning / Measures:

  • Participates in planning and coordination activates each morning at the Team Boards.
  • Key measures of effectiveness and efficiency (including financial) are identified, tracked, and drive continuous improvement through both reactionary and proactive countermeasures.
  • Participates in planning by communication of issues and opportunities. Works with initiative to achieve team 90 Day Action plans.

In Station Process Control:

  • Performs required inspection all equipment and facilities. Corrects immediately or reports all variances and/or improper operations.
  • Participates in all changes to standardized work from the standpoint of equipment capability and reliability.
  • Performs all quality audits and checks, looks for all possible poke-yoke opportunities.

Just In Time:

  • Quick response to team needs

Material handling:

  • Understands data recording and tracking requirements for all matters in the work area.
  • All spare parts and supply materials are stocked and available as needed

Team / Values / Adult to Adult:

  • Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies. Coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Maintenance Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas of lack of cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues effecting cohesiveness. Actively look for ways, and reinforce actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.

Educational Requirements

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience Requirements

  • Industry Experience: Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. Working knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques, principles, and tools preferred.

Technical Competencies

  • Basic mechanical repair
  • Familiarity with electricity and electrical systems
  • Familiarity with hydraulics
  • Familiarity with air controlled systems and pneumatics
  • Ability in metal fabrication
  • Ability to use common measuring tools
  • Ability to read prints and specifications
  • Basic math skills
  • Basic computer skills
