Nathan Hoekstra, Coastal Container’s general manager, traveled to the Treetops Resort in Gaylord, MI to attend the 2023 Michigan Sustainability Conference from Oct. 24-25, 2023. The event, hosted by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), featured plenary and breakout sessions related to the intersection of business and community sustainability efforts and how to navigate issues impacting Michigan.

Hoekstra’s agenda included:

  • Accelerating Equitable Circular Economies Using Innovation and Partnership: NextCycle
  • EGLE Policy and Funding
  • Industrial Decarbonization: Pathway for Innovation and Change
  • So Many Plans; So Little Time (insight into federal funding opportunities)

“I came away from the conference with some solid ideas and action steps for advancing our sustainability initiatives at Coastal. Looking at our growth and the steady expansion of West Michigan manufacturing, it’s crucial that industries make authentic efforts to shrink their carbon footprint,” stated Hoekstra.

Further news of the impact of this conference’s information and Coastal’s ongoing commitment to sustainability will be available in our 2023 Sustainability Report. To learn more about our sustainability efforts, please click here
