Coast Guard Cardboard Boat Races

Grand Haven hosted the Cardboard Boat Races during the Coast Guard Festival for the second year in a row. The race is 200 yards long with about 20 boat entries. Coastal Container employee, Kyle Teasley, entered a boat with his nine-year-old daughter, Leilany and 11-year-old son, Joe.

Leilany designed the boat and Kyle and his co-workers at Coastal Container helped bring the ship to life.Their ship was fondly named after the machine Leilany used at Coastal Container, the U.S. Magellan. The entire ship took a week and a half to construct.

Decked out in Coast Guard colors, the U.S. Magellan took to the “sea.” Crewed by Joe and Leilany, the U.S. Magellan did not sink or take on water. Leilany and Joe won their first race and came in third in their second.

The ship stood by our slogan, protecting Leilany and Joe from dock to destination! Thanks for allowing us to be a part of your design, Leilany!
